History

The Band was originally formed in 1977 as Abingdon Military Band. The name was changed to Abingdon Concert Band in 1988 to better reflect the varied music that we now play. This includes piecesfrompast and present musicals, Disney favourites and otherwell knownconcert band pieces, likethe Folk Song Suite by Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Over the yearswe have given over 150 public performances in and around the Abingdon area. These have included fetes, concerts and charity events. For the last two years we have been pleased to be joined by Wesley Smith of BBC Oxford for our Broadway Rhythm performances as part of the Abingdon Festival.

Musical Director

The Band hasbeen under the baton of Philip Burditt since 2001 but he will stepdown at the end of July 2011. Stephen Bell joins us as musical director from September2011.
